The Gospel of Accommodation

The Gospel of Accommodation

Just turn on your Sunday network or Christian TV channels and you will find an array of pastors, ministers and preachers giving you their take on what God has for you. It’s quite amazing that the gospel is a business that has given wealth to many a “preacher of the Word”. Or a self-proclaimed prophet that has heard God speaks to them to give you a “message”. Kind of like an in general message –but so can a psychic too.

“Buy my book and CD set” and you will unlock what God is saying in his scriptures.

How many times have you heard that?

Then you hear the person say, “With God there is Victory” over all your problems. Hmmmm, but where does it say you won’t go through trials and that you may not see victory. You will see defeat and maybe isolation, you may not hear God in those times either, there’s nothing in stone that says your life is going to be always victorious, in fact it’s gonna stink at times. It’s gonna be hard, sad, angry, disappointed! Jesus did not promise an easy life. He promised that He would be with us.

But the preachers have you coming back to them for that leaning that you will do, depending on what they say to make you feel good again, that’s the Gospel of Accommodation it’s luring you in for more, because it meets your needs.

WRONG!

Only Jesus can meet your needs, we look to Him only, focus on Him my friends!

I spent a lot of years reading and studying what “other” so called Christian teachers and theologians have to say when reading the Bible. It’s quite amazing the different interpretations that you can get. Some are convicting, some are life altering and some have the most amazing history knowledge to share, but some…. some are down right way off, putting yet again their spin on it.

So guard your mind.

Phillipians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

So while you are searching for something to make you feel good or make you smarter in the word than your Christian friends remember where you must go directly, that’s to Jesus in prayer and directly to the Bible as the Holy Spirit will guide your mind to God’s truth, where all will be revealed to you, as you need it.

Lastly I must say with all hope, let all you ingest into your mind be good and holy that’s where God’s word lives.

Not in people

Not in books

But always in God.

Shalom

Have You Committed To God?

Have You Committed To God?

God has His very best for you and maybe you haven’t seen Him work in your situations or trials–being frustrated with God is common so here are a few questions that may have passed through your mind:

Why hasn’t God answered my prayers?

Is it because I don’t pray long enough?

Or have I sinned that I don’t see it?

 Has God forgotten me?

But it’s simple, so simple, “Stay Connected”

What does that look like?

Staying in prayer when you think God isn’t listening.

Connecting up with fellow Christians for support.

Listening to the Holy Spirit when He gives you a gentle nudge to do something.

Going to a church to hear what God has to say to you through the sermon.

Are you looking back?

Backsliding, when you start your journey with high hopes and joy –then nothing is happening, thinking God isn’t working in the situation. So you turn back to what “used to work”. Clearly that path didn’t.

Are you the thorns or shallow soil?

Look at what Jesus says in Matthew 13

The Parable of the Sower

That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

The disciples asked Jesus why he spoke in parables – this is what He told them:

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

If you are reading the Bible and not understanding what it says or means, ask God for wisdom and to help you.

Jesus explains this so we may understand fully:

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.

23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

So you see how prayers may be hindered, by not letting go of the worries and trusting God in all your situations.

We may not see prayers answered for many years but God is working on you and the situation to bring it all to light, to mature and refine you to be more like His One and Only Son-Jesus.

The harder road with God is better, it may seem like it takes forever and you may feel defeated at times but the outcome is a win-win.

Have you committed to God?

The Trials We Face

The Trials we Face

 Are you facing difficulty?

Does everything say “give up” and go on?

Do you feel people are in the way of your progress?

You are facing the same trials many have faced throughout time. Some have been defeated in their strive to move forward, yet because you have faith in Christ you have an assurance that a defeat doesn’t mean an end it means you have been taught.

Many times King David faced enemies in every direction, it could have been defeat but David fled to God for refuge.

Psalm 57:1

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
for in you I take refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until the disaster has passed.

He saw men coming at him like “ravenous beasts”

Psalm 57:4

I am in the midst of lions;
I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts—
men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
 whose tongues are sharp swords.

But David knew His God, he knew what His God can do and David knew how to praise God in a battle, not to give up or give in. He knew to continue moving forward not getting stuck in old details of worry and negativity but instead to

Glorify and Praise God.

Psalm 57:7

My heart, O God, is steadfast,
my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make music.

So David stayed steadfast. What does God call you to do in a trial so overwhelming you want to run for the hills? Does He say be defeated?

Or does He say, “I am with you, you are not alone.”

Romans 8:31b

More Than Conquerors

If God is for us, who can be against us?

David was praising God in his trials knowing the God with him and that no matter what David had to face he knew his God can not be defeated, so in times of trouble, even if we lose, we will always win because God is with us through it all.

SHALOM

Do You Doubt What God Can Do?

Do you doubt what God can do?

 John 20:19-20

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

After Jesus rises from the dead He visits the disciples in the room they had been gathering. The amazing joy the disciples must have felt!

John 20:24

Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

But only 10 of the disciples were there, Judas was gone after betraying and hanging himself from a tree and then there was Thomas, not in the room but when he arrived later after Jesus had left the disciples, they told Thomas all about the Lord’s return. But Thomas didn’t believe it, he needed more proof, he said unless I see Jesus nails scars and wound on His side will I believe.

John 20:25

25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

There are probably many theologians that have their angle on this, but it’s simple. When you have put your trust and love into someone and they leave your doubt is raised if they will come back. But Jesus came back just to show Thomas that it’s true, Jesus loved Thomas so much He came and met his inner desire to physically see just what He knew Thomas needed.

Like Thomas we come to doubt what God can do or if He hears our prayer or call to him. But just like Thomas we need proof, we need to see that prayer is answered and often times it is, but sometimes not what we expect because God knows us intimately and just as He knows how we are wired we need to continue to place trust and hope in Him that He knows our hearts, needs and desires.

Truly it was a happy day for Thomas, but for us who believe without seeing is a privilege and blessing.

God can and will meet your needs but you must trust that He will and not be “A Doubting Thomas”.

Shalom on your day.

Jesus Tell Us How To Pray

Jesus Tell Us How To Pray

In Matthew 6, as the disciples walked with Jesus and were taught, they hungered for His words and clung to them. So Jesus taught them how to go about prayer and the words that He told them to say to their Father in Heaven.

Prayer

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward youAnd when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from the evil one.

It is simple you see, you don’t need lengthy prayers, God knows your heart and needs, Jesus hears when you come to Him simply He knows all the rest. But you must come and lay it down for Him at the throne and let the guidance of the Holy Spirit direct the way.

Shalom,

Nancy

Jesus Rises From Death

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 NIV

When Jesus rose from the grave, that morning Mary’s heart was broken as she went to the tomb and saw that the stone was rolled away. He’s gone!

I don’t know where they have put Him.

We only can imagine, how upset she was, the man that she loved deep in her soul, the one she gave her life over to is now gone.

But no!

He arose and stood right near her and asked her who she was looking for (she thought he was the gardener) she was crying and Jesus revealed himself to her.”Rabboni!” she shouted but Jesus said “do not cling to me, I have not yet ascended to my Father.”

Mary ran to tell the other disciples as they waited together not knowing what to do except wait and think of the events of the past days, what happened to their Lord, the one they have loved, followed and were clinging onto His words. Thinking about how the disciples may have reacted some of these things could have been passing through their minds –

Will the Jewish leaders arrest us?

What did I do?

Can Jesus forgive me?

What do we do now?

But as Mary’s words came into their minds two of the disciples, Peter and John hurried to the tomb, John running ahead of Peter. He was gone!

He lives they thought, and they went back to rejoice with the others.

As the New Testament Scriptures say, Jesus showed up in the place the disciples were meeting, they were joyful in seeing him.

That’s what happens when we are separated from Jesus, our hearts are broken and we may know why, maybe someone you know doesn’t believe in Jesus or doesn’t believe any of the Bible is true, that’s why we point them to the Cross and what Jesus did for us all.

Debt Paid, Forgiveness of Sin, life everlasting that’s what the Savior did for us.

We are forgiven for all the past and can move forward…. free.

What Joy We Shall Have

What Joy We Shall Have

Easter is such a joyful time as Jesus enters into Jerusalem as predicted by the prophets  as our King and Messiah, while the Jewish leaders hated Jesus so they plot to have him arrested, they wanted no disruption during their week of the Passover celebration.

During this week ahead my hope is that our focus is on Christ and what he is preparing to do for us as our everlasting hope of salvation. Our hope is poured into Him as we wait in this season for the newness of meditating on what was happening during those last days he was with the disciples. Here is a comforting scripture for all who believe in what he has done and what he’s going to do.

John 14: 1-4

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”

As Jesus prepares His disciples for His exit of this world and entry in the Kingdom of God; He is going ahead of them to prepare a place for all who believe in Him.

As we place our hope and trust in God this Passion Week, let us always be reminded of the great love Christ showed to us as He faced persecution, beating, flogging nailed to the cross and then death, all for our sins, Jesus became our Passover lamb and when he finally was on that cross bearing our sins of the world onto his shoulders, he poured out his everlasting love for us all so that we may be forgiven and set free to live with Him in eternity.

What joy we shall have!
