Spiritual Growth & God’s Plan

If you are like me, you constantly are measuring your growth in Christ. Many times I question, am I maturing and growing?  Am I behaving in a way that glorifies God or am I self-seeking?

Today, I’m reflecting on David who was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22)

Reading David’s Psalms we come to realize, he also was growing in his thoughts and behavior. David was clear on one thing, He knew with God all things are possible and he stepped out in prayer and faith. God grew his abilities to fight, guided him every day as a leader in King Saul’s army and kept him strong for whatever was coming his way.

Getting Stuck

David faced obstacles, King Saul, knowing David was next in line for kingship pursued him. We can only imagine his fear at times but we also know that God was with him and had anointed him to move through battles that were just about impossible for man to overcome and true miracles from the Lord’s Angel Armies. God had given David strength to scale every wall, victory in battle and as he leads, favor with men. David grew from a young sheep shearer to a great King, God was showing him the way because David got out of his own way. The plans were set for David, just as God has His plans set for us.

Psalm 33:11

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever,

the purposes of his heart through all generations.

What can we learn from this and how can we get unstuck?

There is no rock too big for God to move, let’s not let the one that is in front of us get in our way, it means only a detour for now, but later a victory.

Psalm 25 Of David.

In you, Lord my God,

    I put my trust.

Where You Are

Looking back, from when you first felt God in your life and how you were led, do you see the work He has done in you? Do you see how He has led you from person to person, from teaching to teaching and has established your growth in ways only you can understand. As you study the Bible it becomes more real to you, your life unfolds in understanding the answers to your questions. As your prayer life changes your growth in Christ deepens and your relationship to Jesus goes from head knowledge to heart knowledge seeking the love that only He can give you.

Proverbs 19:21

Many are the plans in a person’s heart,

but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Where You Are Going

God knows what each day will bring, not us.

If you have you asked for direction with no answer in sight, it may take more growth, more tearing away the “old selfish ways” as Jesus makes new ways.

Jesus does tell us to “Ask, Seek, Knock” and the door will be opened. The hardest part is waiting as we grow and understand that God’s way is better than our way. Pray and wait, the Holy Spirit will do the leading and you will know when things are right. Even if you make a mistake, He will gently show you the way back. He’s the potter, we are the clay. Trusting God is the most important thing you can do to know where you are going. Remember….. who’s plan, God’s!

Isaiah 55:8

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,”

declares the Lord.

God Is Coming For You

If you are reading this, God is coming after you. Maybe you can’t imagine that God even cares but He does, He cares so much for you that He sent His Son for you, so that you may have a way to Him.

Luke 15:3-7

Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?  And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders  and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’  I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

We can’t go through life wandering around just imaging that something great is going to happen,  or something tragic will fall upon you. We are given the ability to know Jesus and our lives ahead are bringing us closer to eternity with Him.

God doesn’t want your money, possessions or thinking you must work your way into Heaven. He wants you. Jesus says to come, He is the source of life abundant So if you are experiencing loneliness, depression, or questioning your faith-then pray and ask Him to come into your life.

Let’s pray right now.

Heavenly Father, you know all things, you know me when I come and go, where I am and what I am going through, help me to see things through the lens of your throne where you reside. Help me to know you, help me to see you in all things that you have given to me, life, gifts and a way to worship you. Help me Lord to see you in all of this, I have been lost and you have come for me, thank you Lord for opening my heart to you.

Amen

May you find peace in knowing that you are counted and joyfully loved in every way possible.

Shalom

Is God Real?

Is God Real?

Many years ago while I was searching for truth I asked the question, “Is God Real?”I grew up in a church that really didn’t teach much except to be afraid of God, lots of rules and ways to behave, I still struggled to know if God was real and how is He relevant in my life?

After searching, studying and speaking with other Christians I know  He’s real, operating in every way through your life. Do you wonder does God even know who I am?

This is what the Bible tells us:

  • He knew you in the womb: Psalm 139:13
  • He set you apart: Psalm 4:3
  • He counts the hairs on your head: Matthew 10:30
  • He knows what you need before you ask: Matthew 6:8
  • He hears your prayers: 1 John 5:14
  • He blesses you: Psalm 67:6
  • He protects you: Proverbs 2:8
  • Jesus prays for you: John 17:6
  • The Holy Spirit guides you: John 16:12-13
  • He has a plan for you: Jeremiah 29:11
  • His love for you endures forever: Psalm 100:5
  • His kingdom never ends: Luke 1:33
  • He makes a place for you there: John 14:3

The Bible points us to Scripture many times of God knowing you, intimately, even before you were born. You see the Holy Spirit that is given to us the moment we believe and surrender our lives to Christ will show us the way and the truth that can set you free. Maybe you feel the weight of life upon you and you just want to break free of those chains, you can, if you believe in the One and Only True God, Jesus Christ.

The Bible is not a fable, it’s truth speaks to us and works as a guidebook, it’s rich history and lessons stand every generation. Reading through God’s word you can see the Holy Spirit guiding men and women who have listened and took action to what God had for them. If you feel that somehow this doesn’t make sense to you, then pray and ask. You will get your answer, seeking God for answers will help you get to know the great God that is over us and you will know God is real when you do.

God had a greater plan when He sent His Son to this world, living 33 years and the last three in ministry and instruction, what Jesus accomplished has changed the world. He fulfilled what the prophets spoke about, a Savior that would come and be a sacrifice for us, for forgiveness of sins.

Jesus says:

Matthew 20:28

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Apostle Paul says:

Hebrews 9:26 Otherwise Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

If you still don’t understand who God is and if He is real,  the first place to start to know Jesus in the Gospel Matthew, that will show you the genealogy of Jesus and miracle virgin birth God did through Mary. God is real and is around us everywhere, leading you to Himself, so that you will have an eternal home, but you must trust God for this and have faith!

A Simple Lenten Prayer

Lord, during this time of reflection, open my eyes to see the truth of Your presence in my life. It isn’t what I don’t have, but all the things that I do have that I forgot or ignored. I pray you keep me safe under your arms and guide me to the path that you have set before me. Help me to stay faithful even in my darkest days and help me to love and forgive those that have hurt or forgotten me. Jesus thank you for the grace that only you can give and for setting me free from the things that weren’t right, putting me on a new path and a new start ahead.

Praying all this in your precious Holy Name, Jesus

John 8:32

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

The Challenges We Face

Here comes the New Year…again.

As we look ahead to the future, some of us have set some goals, others planned vacation, and maybe some are thinking about moving either to a new home or job. But as you think ahead, considering your plans do you see hope in that?

The hope we see is that maybe this year could be better than last year, hey maybe it was a great year, but when we look back did we see the challenges we faced?

Sometimes the challenges were fierce and hard to deal with, others were spiritual challenges with hard lessons about ourself or others. Maybe some of you had or are having physical challenges and you think no one truly understands or cares.

Hard to see but the challenges we face are very healthy for our soul, teaching us strength and endurance. Facing each challenge we can look back and see how God has worked in it. He may have brought you closer to Him or someone you know and or love. It may have taught, things aren’t always what they seem to be, having to learn patience and understand that we should look at what’s going on as a bigger picture, challenging us to look outward and not inwardly.

No doubt this year there will be challenges, some easier than others, some could be triumphs and some traumatizing but remember this, God is and will be with you, just put it in His hands and as you depend on Him more, the results and outcome will amaze you. Stop trying to figure it out all the time or control it. Trust God and His purpose for your life, look to Him for all your needs.

May you live in peace and good health during the year with God’s blessings, Nancy

2 Corinthians 13:11

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

God Has Surely Listened

God Has Surely Listened

Psalm 66:16-20

Come and hear, all you who fear God;
let me tell you what he has done for me.
 I cried out to him with my mouth;
his praise was on my tongue.
If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened
and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer
or withheld his love from me!

There are a lot of people out there that say there is no God. But when something tragic happens they say

“Why has God done this to me?”

Or they are on their deathbed and all their life proclaimed there is no God, suddenly they are crying out for God.

If we pay close attention to this Psalm that was written anonymously they were victorious in a battle. On the battlefield trusting God there knowing that He was in control and no matter what the outcome they feared and praised Him.

They knew if there was sin in their life that was not dealt with that the Lord would not hear their prayers. But as this psalmist has written God hears the prayers of those who go after Him.

Shalom

What Joy We Shall Have

What Joy We Shall Have

Easter is such a joyful time as Jesus enters into Jerusalem as predicted by the prophets  as our King and Messiah, while the Jewish leaders hated Jesus so they plot to have him arrested, they wanted no disruption during their week of the Passover celebration.

During this week ahead my hope is that our focus is on Christ and what he is preparing to do for us as our everlasting hope of salvation. Our hope is poured into Him as we wait in this season for the newness of meditating on what was happening during those last days he was with the disciples. Here is a comforting scripture for all who believe in what he has done and what he’s going to do.

John 14: 1-4

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”

As Jesus prepares His disciples for His exit of this world and entry in the Kingdom of God; He is going ahead of them to prepare a place for all who believe in Him.

As we place our hope and trust in God this Passion Week, let us always be reminded of the great love Christ showed to us as He faced persecution, beating, flogging nailed to the cross and then death, all for our sins, Jesus became our Passover lamb and when he finally was on that cross bearing our sins of the world onto his shoulders, he poured out his everlasting love for us all so that we may be forgiven and set free to live with Him in eternity.

What joy we shall have!

Who Is Lord Over Your Life?

Today my heart is saddened by the amount of hate and anger there is going on around the world. The protests are out of control, anger has flooded the airways and people are upset.

What does this do for a human heart? Does it make the situation going on inside of you any better? No! It just produces more anger.

What is the answer? Stop, think and pray for wisdom. God is in Control of it all.

If you are carrying around bitterness this eats away at your mind and cannot be healthy for your body either. Instead why not try to focus everything on Jesus and know that He is the giver of peace, the peace that passes all understanding.

Bitterness is not going to change anything. So Set your hearts on Jesus, He has all the circumstances of your life and knows what you are facing, He knows what you agree or disagree with. We are powerless in our circumstances but God is over all and hears the cries of His people.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

I ask you today, who is the Lord over your life?

Life Is Difficult

Trust the Lord through difficulties and storms in life, the Lord will always provide a way out of these situations when you trust that His hand is on it.

How many times does the Bible tell us to trust God?

Well over 100 times.

Here are some steps to take in the midst of a storm:

  1. Pray….it’s your best defense in the storm, it’s your communication to a Holy, sovereign God who knows your heart inside and out.
  2. Don’t Panic.. it can exasperate the very thing you are overwhelmed by, ask God to comfort you and teach you to lean on Him harder.
  3. Trust… This is the very thing that is hardest, you don’t know the outcome. But God does and when you trust Him to guide you through and direct your path, He will do that and immeasurably more!
  4.  Have Faith… This trial and storm won’t last but it teach you something amazing about not only your strength but The Almighty Strength of God.
  5. Humble Yourself…..Sometimes you have to get on your knees

Seek the Lord with all Your Heart, remember that He is in control.

Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Shalom

Follow Christ, Not False Teaching

Recently I came across a established church website in the city that spoke about the many things they were doing and reflected only God’s name on the site and posted it along with their programs. Nothing wrong with that! But as I studied it further I realized no where was Jesus name or any gospels mentioned. I thought it quite odd that a church that is supposed to be rooted in Christ has nothing on its site about our Lord.

Now it seemed inviting if I were a new believere or had not gone to church in a long time and wanted to know about God and maybe join some of the ministries,  but I didn’t see the glorified Christ name or mention or picture~there at all. But did see something that was introduced into that church that wasn’t the gospel, some program that develops the spiritual life.

With further investigation I realized it was introducing teaching that was not correct.

These are the last days and have been since Jesus told us this, but as things heat up around the world and evil is rearing it’s ugly head, we  will be seeing and hearing more false teaching coming into churches.

BEWARE!

Jesus said: Matthew 24:11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Peter said2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. …

John said:   1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

As a Christian you must always be praying that God will show and expose false teaching to you. That is my prayer for you today my Brothers and sisters in Christ.
