Put It Through The Strain Test

Have you ever read something that was very enticing and then later realized it was not true?

~Have you ever watched a speaker and thought, yea that’s the way I feel and later realize that the purpose of the speaker was to lure you into their book buying, agenda and following?

~Have you ever read a fact that was true then someone put their own “take on it” and make it seem true?

This is all called misleading. When someone or something takes your full attention away from God or the Bible and then that becomes your truth, which is not God’s, and you are mislead and taken away from truly knowing God.

Yes, some will even go to the Bible, point you to scriptures making them palatable, then twist it to their own teaching to entice you to want even more.

1 Peter 2:1

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

Many people are being mislead by a speaker, teacher, self called-prophet or pastor that has a program and somehow throws Jesus into their teaching and doesn’t always point to Jesus being the way, this is also misleading.

It is always wonderful to have devotions, hear about someone who has healed through the healing power of Christ but the truth is the Bible is the source and whoever trusts in something that isn’t fallible as the Bible is, but is misguided to their own truths then that is a sin in itself.

Put everything you ingest in your mind through a strain test.

Does this person profit from and promote their agenda?

Do they point you to the Bible over their own work?

Do they point to Jesus in every aspect of teaching?

Do they call themselves prophets moving people towards a certain “word” for them or healing and enticing you to want more (similar to luring of a psychic’s deception). You will know if the Holy Spirit is speaking to your heart by the way it has been presented to you from a humble perspective.

1 John 4:1

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Do some say “The End is coming soon” and give you a time or date?

Mark 13:32

The Day and Hour Unknown

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

And…..

Revelation 3:10

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

Do they say “victory” over circumstances?

Jesus said we will have trials but to be an overcomer;

 John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Take the time to think through things you are taking in, and allowing that to be your truth, follow Jesus, not people, things or objects.

Exodus 34:17

“Do not make any idols.

And…..

1 John 5:21

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

Shalom

Nancy

Nancy – Good stuff here. Just this week I listened to two sermons by a very well-known Pastor, whose name I will withhold. The first sermon that I heard inspired me, and I liked what they said. I remember thinking what a great message. Then I listened to a second sermon, and I began to see a theme running through those two sermons. They did mention Jesus, but it appeared to me that the Pastor, was talking more about using the power of God to benefit ourselves with a small mention of taking God’s favor and sprinkling it out to others. After the second sermon, I had a rather disquieting feeling. It’s so very easy for each of us to get sucked into teaching that may not properly line up with God’s Word. We have a responsibility to not accept what any Pastor or teacher presents as the Gospel – we need to follow up with the ultimate source of truth – the Bible. After all, it’s not about what I gain for myself, it’s how I can point others to God.

Victoria, sadly many Christians are leaning into these deceptions. Your input here has confirmed that and I am blessed by your input and happy that you are listening to God not people. May your walk with Jesus, be stronger everyday and that He will give you ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to you.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

Mark 13:22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
