What is Grace?

Often times I think what does Grace really mean to me? What is Grace?

So I embarked on a definition journey so from the Encyclopedia I found this as definition:

grace noun \ˈgrās\
: a way of moving that is smooth and attractive and that is not stiff or awkward

: a controlled, polite, and pleasant way of behaving

graces : skills that are needed for behaving in a polite way in social situations

So as I thought about it, who is the supreme creator of Grace, God, right?

What does the Bible say about Grace:

Romans 5:15 (NIV)  But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

Romans 5:17(NIV)  For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

1 Corinthians 16:23 (NIV) The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.

Consider what Paul has said about Grace, each different scripture he wrote had Jesus name as Grace. So as you think about what the world considers the definition of Grace and what Paul says, Jesus is Grace by definition of the word of God, that’s the Bible my friend!

Shalom

Yom Kippur-Holy Day

Yom Kippur in the Jewish religion is the day set for atonement of sins, as you read below through parts of  Leviticus God gives Moses clear instructions on what to do and when to do them. There is a process that God had them follow and as we look on these sacred duties of the priests, begin by looking at verse 16 God has told Moses and given instruction for Aaron not to go into the Most Holy place whenever he wanted or he will die.

Leviticus 16 (NIV)

The Day of Atonement
16 The Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron who died when they approached the Lord. 2 The Lord said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover on the ark, or else he will die. For I will appear in the cloud over the atonement cover.

Let’s move down to verse 29 God tells them exact timing and instructions for this very Holy Day

29 “This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month you must deny yourselves[c] and not do any work—whether native-born or a foreigner residing among you— 30 because on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you. Then, before the Lord, you will be clean from all your sins. 31 It is a day of sabbath rest, and you must deny yourselves; it is a lasting ordinance. 32 The priest who is anointed and ordained to succeed his father as high priest is to make atonement. He is to put on the sacred linen garments 33 and make atonement for the Most Holy Place, for the tent of meeting and the altar, and for the priests and all the members of the community.

34 “This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites.”

And it was done, as the Lord commanded Moses.

What does this mean for a Christian of today? God will always look at this His Holy Day, but He gave us Jesus as the sacrificial lamb, Jesus came in to die on the cross so that these Old Testament rules of sacrifice are obsolete, done-over.

How blessed are we that we don’t have to do this? Do you want to be forgiven of sins?  Pray “Jesus, I am a sinner, please forgive me, wash me clean and I make you my Lord and Savior”  as many have said one and done. No fasting, nothing held, except the love and sacrifice of Jesus for us on the cross.

Shalom to you on this day, Pray!

Having Faith Through Difficulty

These are difficult days, there will more ahead and we must all be prepared to lean more on God for everything. If you were depending on the world to make you happy that will almost always be an empty well, nothing will spring up from this world and what it offers. But if we hold steadfast to God’s word, we will be able to weather any storm ahead and be the beacon of light for others to see.

So that being said, Have Faith!

Hebrews 11:1 says Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

If we look back on the people in the Old Testament, we can read about what great faith the people of that time had and God being faithful, always gave them the hope that He would do what He promises. I love that, I love the assurance that God will do what He promises, He will never leave us or forsake us. That’s awesome!

Well I will be praying for you, no matter who you are and hoping that you will work on your faith, hold strong to it and you will see God work things out in your life you never thought were possible.

Shalom and much Christian love
